1-2 - Lost
Ponte Preta had a decent run in Serie A (two victories and two draws) before they succumbed to a 3:0 defeat away from home against Sao Paulo last weekend. After this defeat, team got back to being five points above the relegation zone, which means that their destiny is nowhere close decided yet. Having 5-3-2 record at home, they do harvest most of the points in front of own fans and surely want to bounce back here with new three pointer.
Forwards Biro Biro and Borges are both back in the starting lineup for coach Doriva after recovering from knocks, while offensive midfielder Adrianinho now remains only injury absentee, but anyway he didn't perform as single minute this season.
Cruzeiro comes from four straight defeats, most recently at home against Santos narrowly being 1:0 defeated. Such a poor run saw the team being involved in a relegation battle, as they are tied up with Goias and Coritiba, both teams that are currently placed at relegating positions. After such a poor run, coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo resigned and new one was installed - Mano Menezes, however no doubt that the new coach had no enough time to change anything for now.
Cruziero will be playing here without vast number of players due various reasons. Three important are away on international duty: left defender Eugenio Mena (4/0), midfielder Giorgian de Arrascaeta (13/2) and offensive left midfielder Alisson (10/1). Injured are forward Joel Tagueu (10/1), right defender Mayke (15/0), defensive midfielder Willian Farias (2/0), central defender Leo (5/0), left full back Fabricio (12/0) and finally right winger Marinho (10/1). Long term absentees without playing a minute remain central defender Dede and forward Julio Baptista.
Much weaker sides than Ponte Preta would be favorites with Cruzeiro being in such a poor form and missing so many players.
