Another interesting clash in Capital One Cup, Southampton welcoming Liverpool in quarter finals. Southampton coming to this match after their first defeat on the road in Premier league in this season against Manchester City 3:1. They are currently at 10th position at the table and so far showed decent performances but to reach upper part of the table must improve their form. They were playing in Europa league qualifications on start of this season but in final round were eliminated by Danish Midtjylland. In 1/8 finals of Capital one Cup they were better than Aston Villa and celebrated 2:1. It will be very hard for them to reach semi finals since now are facing with strong Liverpool, Saints have negative record against them, in last five duels they suffered three defeats, in their previous duel in October got a draw while celebrated once in 2013. Southampton only once in their history managed to reach finals of League Cup in 1979 and they were defeated by Nottingham Forest. They suffered three defeats so far at their field in this campaign and now must play on very high level to achieve positive result here and advance to the next round. Goalkeeper Fraser Forster and forward Jay Rodriguez will stay out of action for this match due to injuries while appearances of defenders Jose Fonte and Florin Gardos are under the question.

Liverpool on the other side are in good form and they showed significant improving of their play since new coach Jurgen Klopp arrived. They won in their last three matches, while in last 16 matches suffered only one defeat against Crystal Palace at home 1:2. They are currently at 6th position at the table with six points less than first placed Manchester City. They suffered only three defeats in Premier league, against West Ham, Manchester United and most recently Crystal Palace, while in Europa league are at first place in group B with nine points from five rounds with no defeat and they already won their placement into knockout stage. Liverpool is playing very good defensive football and they will for sure give their best here to win and reach semi finals. They won League Cup eight times in their history, last time in 2012 they celebrated over Cardiff in final after penalties. Liverpool is having big ambitions and after few poor seasons they wan't to include themselves into a title race in league and win League Cup trophy after 4 years. Liverpool for sure have quality to achieve good results in this season and if they continue with good performances like so far results won't fail. Defenders Mamadou Sakho, Jose Enrique, Joe Gomez and Jon Flanagan, midfielder Jordan Rossiter and forward Danny Ings will miss this match due to injuries while attacking midfielder Philippe Coutinho is in doubt for this game due to a hamstring injury.

Southampton is having a hard task now, they must overcome very strong and confident Liverpool to reach semi finals, they seems out of the track since in last two rounds of Premier league suffered two defeats and it won't be easy to achieve positive outcome here at all, while Liverpool improved their form, in last seven matches in all competitions they celebrated six times and suffered only one defeat, and for sure will give their best and try to get one step closer to a trophy, I believe that Liverpool is closer to a victory in this match.
