Gent will host Zenit Petersburg in final round of Champions league group stage. Gent currently occupies 2nd position in group H with seven points, only one point more than third placed Valencia. They must go for a victory to claim their position and made historical success to reach knockout stage, but it will be very hard against Zenit who achieved maximum number of points in previous five rounds. Gent managed to celebrate two times, they got one draw and suffered two defeats, against Valencia and Zenit, both on the road. As for their domestic league, Gent is currently at 2nd position with equal number of points as 1st placed Club Brugge, while in Belgian Cup they managed to overcome Waregem and reach quarter finals. Gent showed decent performances in this season, especially in Belgium league, they are among most effective teams while in Champions league are now on good path to reach knockout stage and there is only one more obstacle, and it could be said very hard obstacle, team which is undefeated in CL in this campaign and showed great performances. Gent must show play on very high level here to celebrate here in front of their fans. Midfielder Thomas Matton and forward Nicklas Pedersen will miss this match due to injuries while appearances of defenders Lasse Nielsen and Danijel Milicevic and midfielder Brecht Dejaegere are in doubt for this last round.

Zenit on the other side has already won their placement into Champions league knockout stage and they are playing this match without competitive motive. They achieved maximum number of points and also are most effective team in this group with 12 goals scored while conceded only 4 in previous 5 rounds. Zenit is playing great in CL but in Russian Premier league they dropped their position and currently are at 6th place at the table with 7 points less than league leaders CSKA Moscow. Zenit currently must focus on their domestic league and defending of the title, since they already achieved they goal in Champions league. Zenit is coming to this match after two matches in Russian Premier league without victory, most recently in previous round they divided points with Ufa at home while before that suffered convincing defeat against Terek on the road 4:1. Zenit must try to get back on the track in their league while I don't believe that they will celebrate in this match, Zenit is here without motive and they are not in great shape. In Russian Cup they also doing fine job and progressed into quarter finals. Zenit will for sure try to at least stay undefeated here but they seemed pretty unconvincing in last two games so it won't be easy against Gent which has imperative to win here. Midfielder Viktor Faizulin will stay out of action due to an injury, also midfielder Axel Witsel is suspended since he reached yellow card limit while defender Igor Smolnikov is having problems with minor injury and his appearance is in doubt.

Gent now must go for a victory at all costs, this is decisive match for them and for sure will give their best to win their placement into knockout stage of Champions league for the first time in their history, while Zenit already won their placement and for sure will end this group stage at first position in group H, they are now more concerned with bad results in Russian league than this match and I believe that hosts are closer to a victory here.
