Guangzhou followed their 4-1 success over Shanghai Shenhua in the Chinese super cup with a 4-5 defeat at home to Guangzhou R&F at the weekend. They have continued their brilliant attacking threat of the previous season into this one but it also seems their defensive frailty still lingers. They have not been in top form in the AFC champions league as it kick started before the Chinese league season, but they should show some obvious improvement in the competition now their season has commenced proper. They have two draws in as many games so far and really need a win here. Striker Alan followed his goal against Shanghai Shenhua with a hattrick in the R&F game and he will be looking to his first AFC champions league goal this season.
Jeju have one win and one defeat in this season champions league and also started their league in Korea last weekend with a 0-0 draw at home to FC Seoul. They won away at Buriram and lost home to Cerezo Osaka and face a team that carries a far more potent attacking threat than the rests of the teams in this group and as such, they have to defend better and hit strong on the counter.
Guangzhou are very much in need of the points and I feel they will get the win. They have to respond with a better performance than the 5-4 defeat at the weekend and should score a couple here too, but their defense is still a big source of concern for Cannavaro who was known for leading strong defenses during his playing days and he will be looking for ways to keep them tighter at the back. I reckon we should see some goals here, so I am going with the home win and both teams to score option.
